Financing your semester abroad

A semester abroad needs to be paid for. On the following sites we will inform you about the topic “money”.

Jobs

Jobs

There are many possibilities to find a job in Mainz. Here is a list of institutions and possibilities.

Job center for students in the students’ house (Studierendenhaus):

Here you can find notes with jobs for students. It is also possible to search for jobs on the website: http://www.arbeitsagentur.de/

Restaurants

In case you want to work in a restaurant in the kitchen or in service, the best way to find a job is to go from one restaurant to the other and ask whether they need someone. You can also search at the Job Centre, but they usually  don't have as many offers for students.

  • In the kitchen: basic knowledge of German is sufficient
  • In service: good knowledge of German is necessary

Time work

For male students, there is even the possibility to look for temporary employment in a special company. In general, these are jobs in factories. Nevertheless, basic knowledge of German is necessary.

You can search here: www.gelbe-seiten.de

Fill in the gaps with “Mainz” and “Zeitarbeit (temporary employment)”, then you will get a list of all the companies offering such positions. You can call them or even better stop by and introduce yourself in person.
