Dormitories of Studierendenwerk Mainz

In our dormitories, there are 4 different types of accommodation.

1) WG apartment room = Room in a shared apartment

1) WG apartment room = Room in a shared apartment

WGs Shared apartments | Living together with other students in an apartment, your roommates.

Applies to all WGs:

  • Each roommate has their own lockable room, and shared areas are used together with your flatmates: communal kitchen, lounge area, and in some dormitories, also lockable showers and toilets.
Only in K3 and in Münchfeld does each flatmate have their own bathroom.
  • In 2-person WGs, the roommates are of the same gender, while larger shared apartments are mixed.
  • Cooking or eating together? Encounters with your roommates are easy in everyday life.

2-person WG

In Hechtsheim, there are over 150 two-person WGs, while in Binger Schlag and Oberstadt there are about 14 two-person WGs. Since it is rare for both residents of a WG to move out at the same time, usually only one spot becomes available in a 2-person WG. We then assign one spot in a 2-person WG. Your roommate is therefore chosen randomly, but the roommate is definitely of the same gender.
Kitchen: In the 2-person WG, there is a kitchenette with 2 hotplates and no oven, along with a refrigerator with a freezer compartment.
Bathroom: There is a lockable bathroom with a shower, a mirror, a sink, and a toilet.

3-person WG

In Hechtsheim there are 26 3-person WGs, so a total of 78 people can live there. Therefore, only a few places in 3-person WGs become available per semester. An entire 3-person WG becomes available even more rarely.
Kitchen: In the 32-person WG, there is a kitchenette with 2 stove burners and no oven, and a refrigerator with a freezer compartment.
Bathroom: There is a lockable bathroom with a shower, a mirror, a sink, and a toilet.

4-person WG

In Kisselberg and K3, there are just over 50 shared apartments for four people each. In Hechtsheim, there are 8 four-person WGs, amounting to over 250 places in four-person WGs in total.
Kitchen: In the four-person WG, there is a kitchen where everyone has their own lockable cabinet, equipped with 4 stove burners and an oven.
Bathroom: In Hechtsheim, there is a bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink. In Kisselberg, there is a lockable toilet with a sink and mirror and a lockable shower with a sink and mirror. In K3, everyone has their own bathroom. Everyone has their own refrigerator in their room.

8-person WG in Inter 2

In the 23 eight-person WGs in Inter 2, there is space for 184 students. You are right in the middle of the campus. The walk to classes on campus is short, and you have options when it comes to roommates: With 7 roommates, there is a good chance that you will get along really well with more than one person.
Kitchen: You have a large kitchen where everyone has their own lockable cabinet, and there are 4 stove burners and an oven. There is also a table in the kitchen where you can cook and eat together. Everyone has their own refrigerator in their room.
Bathroom: Everyone has a sink and a mirror in their room. There are 2 lockable toilets and 2 lockable showers.

12-person WG in Münchfeld

In den 8 12-person WGs in Münchfeld, one apartment per floor, there are 96 spots. The walk to the campus is short, as is the walk to the nearest supermarket.
Kitchen: A really nice large kitchen with a cooking island with 8 stove burners and 2 ovens, a table for cooking and eating together. Everyone has a lockable cupboard. Everyone has a refrigerator in their room.
Bathroom: In Münchfeld, everyone has their own bathroom with a shower, sink, mirror, and toilet.

2) Apartments = 1-Room-Apartment

2) Apartments = 1-Room-Apartment

Apartments = 1-room apartment | A private kitchen and a private hygiene area are integrated into the room.

Contacts in the dormitory

Contacts in the dormitory

Making Contacts in the Dorm and Beyond

In a shared flat, you can most easily make contact with other students. Even better: Every dorm has a common room where you can easily get to know people from your dorm. It's best to look at the notices in the dorm or ask the caretaker how to get in touch with the dormitory committee (HV) – that's where you can make many contacts. Volunteering is also a great way to meet new people and get involved locally.

Outside the dorm, the Studierendenwerk Mainz offers various activities where you can meet other students, such as the Studi-Events or the Language Café:. Just come by and join in!

Do you want to meet people with the same interests? Then become a Buddy  and get to know other Buddys. Or become a Guest student and at the same time get to know the people and the region here better.
